Skin Cancer Screening & Treatment in Noida

Mole assessment, skin cancer screening, and surgical excision with histopathology. ABCDE evaluation, dermoscopy, and excision when indicated. By Dr. Reena Sharma, MD Dermatology.

Skin cancer is less common in Indian patients than in fairer-skin populations — but it does occur, particularly in older adults with cumulative sun exposure (basal cell carcinoma) and as acral melanoma on palms, soles, and nail beds. Early detection saves lives.

When to seek assessment

  • New mole appearing in adulthood
  • Existing mole that changes (size, colour, shape, texture)
  • Non-healing sore that bleeds or ulcerates
  • Dark band under nail
  • Family history of skin cancer + atypical moles
  • Annual full-body check for over-40 adults

Assessment includes ABCDE clinical evaluation + dermoscopy. Suspicious lesions are excised surgically with histopathology. Advanced cancer is referred to oncology for staging and systemic therapy.

Book a screening if you have any concerning lesion.

Quick answers

Skin Cancer — FAQ

Is skin cancer common in India?
Less common than in Western countries (Indian melanin is protective) but rising — especially basal cell carcinoma in older patients with cumulative sun exposure, and acral melanoma on palms/soles/nail beds in Indian patients.
What signs should I look for?
ABCDE: Asymmetry, Border irregularity, Colour variability, Diameter > 6mm, Evolution (any change in mole). Also: non-healing sore, sudden new growth in adults, dark band under nail.
When should I get a mole checked?
Any new mole appearing in adulthood, recent change in existing mole, or any of the ABCDE features. We use dermoscopy for high-magnification assessment.
Treatment for skin cancer?
Surgical excision with margins. Histopathology confirms type and adequacy of excision. For specialised cancer care (advanced melanoma, complex cases), we refer to oncology.
Can sunscreen prevent skin cancer?
Substantially reduces risk, especially of squamous cell carcinoma and melanoma. Daily SPF 50, broad-spectrum, applied properly is one of the most-impactful preventive interventions.
When should I do a full-body skin check?
Annually for adults over 40, every 6 months if you have personal/family history of skin cancer or many atypical moles.
