Tattoo regret is common — particularly in Indian patients who got tattoos young or want to remove permanent makeup like microblading. The technology is now mature: Q-switched Nd:YAG laser fragments ink particles into pieces small enough for your immune system to clear. Most tattoos can be substantially or completely faded over 6 to 10 sessions.
How laser tattoo removal works
Each laser pulse delivers picosecond bursts of energy that shatter ink particles. Your immune system gradually clears the fragments via lymphatic drainage. Sessions are 6 to 8 weeks apart to allow this clearance — going faster does not work.
Realistic timeline
- Session 1 to 2: 20 to 30 percent fade. Tattoo looks more "ghost-like" but still visible.
- Session 3 to 5: 50 to 60 percent fade. Most colour gone for black/dark inks.
- Session 6 to 8: 80 to 90 percent fade. Some residual outline often remains.
- Session 9+: Final touches for stubborn fragments. Complete clearance possible for some tattoos.

Aftercare matters
- Antibacterial ointment for 5 to 7 days post-session
- Do not pick scabs — picking causes scarring
- Strict SPF 50 over treated area for 4 weeks
- No swimming pools, sauna, or heavy gym for 7 days
- Mild redness, swelling, blistering possible — usually settles in 3 to 5 days
If you are considering tattoo removal, book a consultation for an in-person assessment. We will tell you honestly how many sessions to expect and what level of clearance is realistic for your specific tattoo.
