Hydrafacial is the most-booked facial treatment at Derma Essence, and one of the most-misunderstood. The cheap "hydra" facials at salons are not the same device. This page walks through what a real medical-grade Hydrafacial includes, what each step does, and which booster is right for your skin concern.
The 6-step protocol
Every Hydrafacial follows the same 6 steps — only the booster (step 5) changes based on your concern.
Cleanse + exfoliate 5 min
A vortex-cleansing tip uses a gentle peel solution to remove dead skin cells, surface oil and grime. Unlike scrubs, there is no abrasion — the suction does the work.
Acid peel 5 min
A mild glycolic + salicylic acid peel loosens debris inside pores. We choose the strength based on your skin sensitivity — the goal is unclogged pores, not visible peeling.
Vacuum extraction 10 min
This is the magic step. The vortex tip uses suction to clear blackheads, whiteheads and oil without manual squeezing — the cause of most facial-induced scarring.
Hydrate & antioxidant fusion 8 min
A serum loaded with hyaluronic acid, peptides and antioxidants is delivered into now-clean pores via the same vortex tip. Skin plumps almost immediately.
Customised booster 10 min
This is where we tailor: Britenol for pigmentation, Dermabuilder for fine lines, CTGF (growth factor) for ageing skin. Boosters are picked based on your assessment, not as an upsell.
LED therapy + sunblock 7 min
Red light for collagen, blue light for acne-prone skin. Sealed with a broad-spectrum sunblock so you can step out immediately.

Which booster is right for me?
- Pigmentation, melasma, dark spots → Britenol booster + a course of pigmentation treatment
- Fine lines, mild laxity, ageing skin → Dermabuilder booster + consider anti-ageing add-ons
- Acne, oily skin → Salicylic-heavy peel step + LED blue. We may pair with acne-scar treatment
- Dull, dehydrated skin → Hyaluronic acid focus + CTGF
- Pre-event glow → Standard Signature, booked 3 to 5 days before
How often should I do Hydrafacial?
For most patients: every 4 weeks for 3 to 6 months, then every 6 to 8 weeks for maintenance. For very oily / acne-prone skin: every 2 weeks initially, then standard schedule.
One-off Hydrafacials are great for events. Cumulative results — clearer pores, even tone, denser collagen — only show up with consistent monthly sessions.
What Hydrafacial will NOT fix
- Active cystic acne — needs prescription topicals/orals first
- Deep wrinkles or significant laxity — needs HIFU or fillers
- Sun damage at scale — needs laser sessions
- Acne scars — needs MNRF or fractional laser
If your concern is one of these, a Hydrafacial alone will be a waste. Book a consultation and we will plan the right treatment instead.
