PSORIASIS TREATMENT

We, at Derma Essence, the best skin clinic based in Delhi NCR witness a regular visit of patients suffering from psoriasis. And with a clear track record, almost every patient had uttered the best of things regarding our treatment options and guidance from our expert dermatologist, Dr. Reena Sharma who’s an Ex-AIIMS trained dermatologist, having a 12+ years of experience in this field.

What Is Psoriasis?

Psoriasis is a skin condition where there is an excessive proliferation of upper layers of skin, giving red and flaky scales. The issue commonly occurs near joints like elbows, knees, and on scalp as well. Furthermore, it affects skin, nails, and joints that can later take the form of arthritis as well. Dr. Reena Sharma, one of the best skin specialists in Delhi NCR adds that psoriasis is a chronic disease that comes and goes with time, causing cells to build up rapidly on the surface of the skin.

What Are the Causes of Psoriasis?

Both inherited and environmental factors play a major role in the development of psoriasis. Penning down Dr. Reena Sharma’s expertise, it’s difficult to understand the real cause behind the occurrence of psoriasis. But certain infections, stress, damage of skin, and some medicines can possibly trigger psoriasis as well.

SCARRING ALOPECIA

Scarring alopecia is not a single problem, but rather a group of disorders that may destroy the hair follicle. There are no certain causes that can define various kinds of scarring alopecias. However, inflammation in the upper part of the hair follicle, where sebaceous glands (oil glands) are located, is the most probable cause. Not only that, scarring alopecia replaced it with a scar tissue that might cause long-term hair loss as well. Scarring alopecia is also known as cicatricial alopecia.

How is scarring alopecia different from normal hair fall?

  • Itching: Itching is experienced in the scalp often by persons who are suffering from scarring alopecia.
  • Pain: Pain is also sometimes an associated sign of this problem.
  • Burning: Burning is the most common sign of scarring alopecia.

Scarring alopecia destroys the follicle, leaves scar tissue, causes long-term damage, and needs prompt treatment, unlike regular hair fall which is asymptomatic. There are different types of scarring alopecia- lichen Plano pilaus, discoid lupus, trichotillomania, and folliculitis decalvans name a few. Diagnosis would depend on the clinical examination by an expert dermatologist. Few cases may require a skin biopsy.

Treatment varies depending upon the diagnosis and is aimed at:

  • Stopping further scarring.
  • Restoring lost hair.
  • Treatment options include corticosteroids in topical creams, antimalarial, retinoids, antibiotics, and calcineurin inhibitors. Hair transplantation can be done in select cases to restore lost hair.
